Mayawati passes Resolution to divide Uttar Pradesh

In a significant development, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati passed a resolution to divide the state into four parts in the assembly today. She also had her way, as the House was adjourned sine die soon after the resolution was passed.

The Opposition Samajwadi Party and the BJP were taken aback by Mayawati's smart move. The Speaker too supported her.

Today was the first day of the Winter Session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, but the Speaker adjourned the House sine die at the behest of Mayawati after the motion was passed.

The resolution was passed by a voice vote without a discussion or vote division, as demanded by the Opposition. Even CM Mayawati was not present in the House at the start of the session.

The Samajwadi Party claimed that at least 70 BSP MLAs are supporting it. The party has decided to take the matter to the Governor and claimed Mayawati has lost majority in the House.
