Actor-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan filed her nomination for the Rajya
Sabha from the Samajwadi Party today. She was seen during the
swearing-in ceremony of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on
Thursday.
Mrs Bachchan if re-elected in the polls, it would be het third term to the Rajya Sabha on the SP ticket. She was first elected to the House in 2004.
Jaya joined the race for the Rajya Sabha election among other SP candidates including Naresh Agarwal, Brij Bhushan Tiwari, Kiranmay Nanda and Munawar Salim, who had filed their nominations for the Upper House in presence of Akhilesh Yadav on Friday.
A total of 58 seats will be vacant in the Rajya Sabha on April 2. There will be 10 vacancies from UP on the basis of strength of the state assembly in Rajya Sabha.
The SP can send 6 candidates out of 10 member limit to Rajya Sabha in proportion to the party position in the UP assembly. While the BSP will send two, one each seat will go to the BJP and the Rashtriya Lok Dal-Congress.
