In a big relief to former Telecom Minister A. Raja's close aide R K Chandolia, he was granted bail in the massive 2G spectrum allocation case despite the CBI's objection on Thursday.
CBI Special Judge O.P. Saini granted bail to Chandolia stating there was distinction between him and former Telecom Secretary Siddhartha Behura and Raja. Chandolia was the private secretary of Raja.
The court said that Chandolia's case is different and there was no equation with Raja and Behura.
The move came after DMK MP Kanimozhi and five other co-accused in the case were released on bail. Only Raja and Behura are two accused left in judicial custody.
The court said that there was no evidence that Chandolia had accepted any bribe. He was the private secretary and did not have any independent powers to make any decision. All the decisions could have been taken by the instruction of Raja as he was the head of the Department of Telecommunications and Behura was its administrative head.
Chandolia will have to furnish a personal bond for Rs.3 lakh with two sureties to be released from jail.
