Violence mars 'Beef Festival' at Osmania University

The 'Beef Festival' organised by some student groups at the Osmania University campus, turned violent, as other groups led by ABVP clashed with the organisers.

At least five students were badly injured in the melee. Two vehicles were also set on fire. The students attacked each other with sticks, rods and bricks during the chaos.

The 'Beef Festival' was organised by some student groups, who opposed "food fascism" in hostels. A student of one hostel was stabbed for supporting the 'Beef Festival'. He was admitted to Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad.

An Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus was also set on fire by the protesters who opposed the Beef Festival. The police had to resort to lathicharge and used teargas shells to disperse the clashing students.

Some dalit and left-wing student groups had organised the 'Beef Festival'. They included Telangana Students Association, Progressive Democratic Student Union, Student Federation of India and student groups from English and Foreign Languages University.
