Obese People live in Denial Mode

Most of the obese people live under the false impression that they are not overweight. This denial mode attitude towards obese is becoming a major barrier to weight loss – Experts have suggested.

A recent study at the University of Illinois has provided that about 1200 in 3500 participants could not tell their weight accurately during the experiment. It implies that they do not think they are obese and it is a health issue.

The study specially pointed the case of India. It says that India has got nearly 20% increases in overweight people between 1998 and 2005. It means 1 in each 5 men and over 1 in each 6 women in the country is obese.

However, people in India has a different opinion towards obese. In many communities obesity is often taken as a symbol of prosperity. In other words fat people are considered healthy and rich while thin people are considered weak and poor in India.

In has been noticed that overweight people don’t think they are fat because everybody around them are like him.

Obese leads to various health dangers like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers, arthritis, hypertension and muscle-skeletal disorders.

Normally a BMI (Body Mass Index) of less than 18.5 is considered underweight, 18.6-24.9 is normal, 25 to 29.9 is overweight and when it is above 30, it can be called obese.

More Obesity is one of the most important reasons for heart attacks as excessive body mass index increases chances of coronary artery disease.
