Assam witnessed another protest over the construction of India's largest Subansiri hydro-power project. The protest was taken to the street to block the trucks carrying turbines for the dam site.
The protest came after the police crackdown in Sinitpur and Lakhimpur on Wednesday. Police had resorted to lathicharge and blank fires on the protesters leaving hundreds injured.
The protesters have been raising their voice against the construction of dam on Subansiri river on the border of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Around 20,000 protesters gathered on the streets on Thursday ad blocked National Highway 52 to stop a truck carrying turbines to the dam. It is reported that the protest is backed by Assam's main Opposition party the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and insurgent group United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA).
