Review by: Deborah Green
In Stirring It Up, Gary Hirshberg describes the mission behind Stonyfield Farm and catalogs the lessons he has learned while seeking profit via environmental sustainability over the past 25 years. Asserting that nature and business can function as allies, he discusses how companies can expand their goals beyond mere profitability, and cites Stonyfield and other organizations as examples.
Hirshberg encourages corporations to adopt mission statements, using Stonyfield’s statement as a prototype, that include goals for the product, environmental education, environmentally and socially responsible business, a healthy workplace, and excellent investment returns.
