A very good friend of mine Shri Prabuddha Dasgupta, an applauded
fashion photographer of India has passed away on Sunday at the age of 58. He
was admitted to the hospital following a heart attack while executing a shoot
at Alibaug and later died.
Let me give a tribute to this pesonality. Late. Shri Prabuddha Dasgupta was a self-taught photographer who came to light in 1996 when broke a taboo by publishing 'Women' (Viking Books), a controversial collection of portraits and nudes of urban Indian women. His works had also been exhibited internationally, both in solo and group shows, and published in Indian, French, English, Italian and American magazines.

Dasgupta’s second book 'Ladakh'
(Viking Books), a personal exploration of India's frontier wilderness was
published in 2000 and his work was included in many books publications
including 'Nudi' (Motta Editore, Milan) and 'India Now - New Photographic
Visions' (Textuel, Paris). In the decade that followed, Dasgupta pursued
a variety of photographic projects, while unapologetically straddling the two
worlds of commissioned and artistic work, bringing to both, a bold,
individualistic sensibility that very quickly placed him in the ranks of major
photographic talent in the country.
He is also the recipient of many grants and awards, including the Yves Saint Laurent grant for photography in1991, and his work is in the collections of many individuals and institutions, like the Museo Ken Damy, Brescia, Italy, and Galleria Carla Sozzani, Milan, Italy. In 2009 Dasgupta’s third book “Edge of Faith” was published by Seagull Books.

Dasgupta worked with several eminent models of the fashion industry including Lakshmi Menon and Lara Dutta. Lara Dutta twitted,"I hear from twitter that Prabuddha Dasgupta has passed away. He shot me for the Femina cover right after I won Miss India. It was every woman's dream to be shot by Prabuddho! No one captured a woman like him. May his soul rest in peace" for Dasgupta.
A versatile personality, Dasgupta was recipient of many grants and awards, including the Yves Saint Laurent grant for photography in 1991. You may check his photography collections on his website
